Details: Four classic period cars are presented in this particular edition of the Cyprus Post Office.
In Cyprus, during the period between 1955-1960, cars were considered a symbol of progress as well as a practical means of transport, particularly in a society that was in the process of becoming modernised.
Four distinctive European car brands were prominent in the roads of Cyprus.
The Morris Minor, a car that was particularly popular due to the British presence on the island, was reliable and easy to maintain, covering the drivers’ daily needs. From Italy, the Fiat 600 was an economic option which offered versatility and was ideal for use in the narrow city streets.
The German choice, the Volkswagen Beetle was beginning to gain popularity due to its durability and simple design, and it was appropriate for the hot Cyprus climate.
Finally, the French Citroen 2CV was distinguished by its pioneering suspension and for its ability to move effortlessly in the countryside’s rough roads.
These cars were not just seen as means of transport but were also an indicator of social evolution and lifestyle transformation.
